Core Christian Values - Wisdom, Hope, Community and Dignity

Our values

In October 2011 the children and parents voted for their five top values following a project that began by re-writing our collective worship rolling programme which led to the teaching staff introducing the children to 18 different values over the year.  All the values were introduced with a story from the Bible, and we made links with everyday events, awarding special certificates to help give concrete examples in support of their understanding.

The whole school community was involved in making the choices. The staff and children choose their favourite 10 from the original list of 18, and these were re-visited in collective worship. The voting procedure was discussed at the Ethos group meeting chaired by Father Freddie. It was decided that the children in Yr 5/6 would vote independently, and then all families would receive one voting form. It was felt that it was more appropriate for families to decide whether their children were mature enough to be involved in discussions about making their choice.

After a vote the following five values were chosen:

We celebrate these values each week in our Friday collective worship where each class teacher nominates their star value child. Parents are also encouraged to make home nominations.

Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.

Spirituality Art Club

Stained Glass Art

One of the clubs that we are running this half term at Cornwood is Spirituality Art club. This club is all about the children exploring their inner thoughts, feelings and emotions. Our first project was creating a stained-glass window. The children had to design something that was important to them, thinking about what colours make them feel calm, happy and positive. They drew their design on paper first before transferring it onto glass. They had great fun using the glass pens and I think you would agree they all look fantastic.
