Cornwood C of E Primary School

Eco Council

Eco Council 2025-26

Hello and welcome to Cornwood Primary School's Eco Council page.

We’re a group of pupils who love our planet and want to help look after it. Our job is to make our school a greener and cleaner place for everyone. We come up with ideas, run projects, and encourage everyone to recycle, save energy, and care for nature.

From supporting our local wildlife to reducing waste, we’re always looking for new ways to help the environment. Every little change can make a big difference — and together, we can make our school an eco-friendly place.

Take a look below to see what we’ve been up to and find out how you can join in!

What a way to start February!

We have got off to a busy start this month! We began by completing a litter pick around the school grounds to support local wildlife and make a positive difference to the school.

Also, as part of our school's climate action plan, we gave a collective worship all about wildlife conservation and the small steps we can take to help combat climate change. This built on from the 'Bonster' the Bin Monster' workshop last week.

Meeting 15.01.2026

In the Eco Council, we have been talking about what we can do to help Woodside - the care home for animals. We have also been thinking about what we are going to do for Earth Day 2026.

At the Christmas fair we raised £30 from just selling old school uniforms and running a name the teddy stall .We are aiming to get £100 or more for Woodside this year. On Earth Day we are planning to raise some more money for Woodside: we will sell baked goods ,have a mufti day and some fun activities for everybody to enjoy.

We discussed the school’s climate action plan and how we can help with this. We will start by giving an assembly on energy saving tips and wildlife conservation. We are also considering how we can reduce food waste and the potential to turn waste from our dinners and packed lunches into compost for plants around the school.

12.12.2025 - Christmas Fair ðŸŽ„

Eco Council had a stall at the Christmas fair to raise money for Woodside. We sold brand new uniform and had a name the tree teddy competition. Our fundraising is going well so far - we made £30! We will be continuing to raise funds this year, so keep an eye on our page and the newsletter for updates.

27.11.2025 🌱 Eco Council Update 🌱

Our Eco Council has been busy making a positive impact on our school grounds! This week, the children planted a variety of trees and spring bulbs to help support local wildlife and brighten up our outdoor spaces.

Everyone is excited to see the trees grow and can’t wait for the colourful blooms to appear in the spring. A huge well done to our Eco Council for their hard work and dedication to caring for our environment!

The council met on 19.11.2025:

  • In the next couple weeks, we will be planting trees in the school grounds as we have had some saplings arrive at school - we are just waiting for a clear and sunny day!
  • We are currently gathering things to sell at the Christmas fair to sell and will be creating some games to help us raise money for Woodside.
  • After Christmas, we will be completing a community litter pick to help keep our village clean.

The council met at the end of September to set out some goals for the year:

  • A litter pick around our local community
  • Fundraise money for Woodside
  • Fundraise at Christmas with a stall selling products made from reused materials
  • Organise activities for Earth Day (22nd April)
  • Ask for donations of materials to build some bug/ insect hotels to place around our green areas
