Spirituality

Spirituality is ...... relational awareness of ourselves, others, the world and beyond

Spirituality

Firstly we introduced our definition of Spirituality to the children and thought about the four areas:

Self - spiritual learners reflect on the relationship that they have with their sense of being a unique person

Others - spiritual learners reflect on how their values and ideas affect their relationships with others, Growing empathy, concern and compassion for how to treat others.

The World - spiritual learners become increasingly aware of the concept of a physical and creative world - a growing relationship with beauty through the ability to respond emotionally to experiences of the wonder of the natural world and the results of human creativity.

Beyond - spiritual learners become increasingly aware of the concept of the beyond - a growing relationship with the transcendental (being beyond ordinary or common experience, thought or belief; supernatural) and the ability to explore experiences beyond the everyday.

Ourselves

We started on our journey to understanding what Spirituality is by first looking at ourselves, if we don't know who we are how can we have a relationship with anyone else. We looked inside at what makes us different and looked at the outside to see how we are all individual.

The children shared ideas of how they are all unique.

Others

We next looked at the relationship we have with those around us and how we know each other. We wanted to dig deep into what we know about our friends and what makes them special.

The World

We set the children the challenge to draw a place that was significant to them. We discussed how a place can make us feel, this could be to do with the landscape, the people, the memories or the atmosphere. The staff shared some of their places and the reason behind their choice.
