The Erme Primary School

Mothecombe - Year 1 and Year 2

Mothecombe class is made up of all of our Year 1 and Year 2 children.

Mrs Pasmore teaches Mothecombe class all week, and is supported by Mrs Derrick and Mr Price. Mrs Josee also supports us with our phonics lessons each morning. On a Friday afternoon, the class is taught by Miss Walling who covers Mrs Pasmore's PPA time.

In our class, we learn in a range of ways as we learn to access more formal learning. We have lots of brain breaks to support us to focus and we have access to some continuous provision too to support us with our transition from EYFS to Year 1.

To find out about what we are learning in each subject, please visit the curriculum area of our website.

You could also read the attached parent letter which was sent home via School Ping.

Our classroom is carefully designed to create a welcoming and engaging space where children develop a real love for learning. We have a cosy carpet area for whole-class teaching and a calm reading corner that helps foster a lifelong passion for books. The tables are arranged in small groups to encourage teamwork, sharing ideas, and supporting one another’s learning.

At the centre of our classroom is a well-organised island filled with resources that help children become confident, independent learners. Here, they can easily access sound mats, number lines, manipulatives, pencil pots, and exercise books whenever they need them.

Just outside our classroom, you’ll find our tuff tray area, which features two hands-on activities each week, usually linked to our current Maths or English learning. This provides a fun opportunity for children to work with friends, practise key skills, and deepen their understanding of new concepts.
