Hello, we are Rowtor class. We are made up of Year 5, Year 6, Mrs Rowe, Miss Dallas and Miss Baker. We take pride in being good role models and helping the younger members of our school community.
Week Ending 5th December
This week, Rowtor has been continuing to look at themes in music. We used body percussion and vocals to accompany Benjamin Britain’s Young persons guide to the orchestra. Next week we will be looking at other themes and how we can develop our own versions to accompany them.
Week Ending 27th November 2025
Rowtor have been investigating how the length of shadows changes throughout the day. This week we measured the shadow of a metre stick on the hour throughout the day from 9am - 2pm. We came across some variables that impacted our process such as cloud cover for one part of the day. We found that shadows are longest in the morning and late afternoon when the sun is closest to the horizon and shortest at midday.
Week Ending 21st November 2025
This week in DT, RowTor have been cutting out their waistcoat fabric, working from their designs. The children drew around their templates to create the three components for their waistcoats, thinking about leaving a seam and overlapping for any fastenings they might need. Next week, we shall continue to cut out our components and start sewing them together.
Week Ending 14th November 2025
This week Rowtor has been learning about how to discuss pets in their French unit ‘As-tu un animal?’. They have learned how to refer to a range of pets from a dog to goldfish and played a matching game to check their recall of the key terms.
In Forest School this week, Mr Hall gave a demonstration on how to safely whittle a piece of wood using a knife. The children were then able to use their skills to shape and carve their own wooden tools. It was great to see the children use this technique whilst carefully following his guidelines.
Week Ending 7th November 2025
This week saw the start of Forest School for Row Tor.
Children took part in a team building activity to build a shelter from branches and anything they could find to support the tarpaulin roof. Luckily it remained mostly dry but the wind tested their structures which were still standing by the end of the session!
Week Ending 24th October 2025
This week Class 3 have been getting to know their new text The Genius of Anglo-Saxons by Izzi Howel. We have explored how the author has made specific choices around different writing devices to make the book more accessible to the reader and to build cohesion across the text. On Thursday, the class analysed some pages of the text to look specifically for cohesive devices such as time adverbials, repetition and subject specific vocabulary.
Week Ending 17th October 2025
Year 5 developed their artwork this week by printing their zines. The images for the zine were inspired by the poem ‘Ghost in the Garden’ by Berlie Doherty. They collaged and painted their page backgrounds before monoprinting on top of them. It was really tricky getting the poem words to print the right way around but the pages were looking great. Year 6 will also be working on their zines next week.
Week Ending 10th October 2025
In our whole class reading, we read a whole novel - Robot Girl by Malorie Blackman. We shared this experience as a class and discussed our predictions, key information, summarising parts and finally reviewing what we thought of our text. We could design our reviews however we liked to portray a range of reflections on how we felt about the story and whether we would recommend it to others.
Week Ending 3rd October
In music, we have been learning about looping and remixing. This week, the class got to use Chrome Music Lab Song Maker to create their own loops. They chose some patterns on the software and explored how they could loop different sounds to create their own piece. They thoroughly enjoyed using this software and will develop their skills using it over the coming weeks.
Week ending 26th September 2025
Rowtor have been looking at fundamental movement skills in their PE sessions with Premier Sport. This week, they considered how to keep formation when playing rugby, as well as their positioning when they passed to their teammates. With Mrs Rowe, we have been learning travelling and jumping skills, with a focus this week on a split jump.
Week ending 19th September 2025
The class has been exploring online safety in their current computing unit. This week we looked at the views of children about online safety and how there are a range of positives and negatives around being online. We talked about the best methods to stay safe online and watched a video that showed a range of children’s views on online safety and the tips they had to keep ourselves safe.
Week ending 12th September 2025
For our first full week back, Row Tor have ensured that they have secured and recapped key writing and maths skills from our learning across previous years. We have experimented with a range of sentence structures, with a focus on punctuating these correctly. We have also looked at the mathematical language we use in maths and how we can support our own learning by using manipulatives.

We have had a lovely couple of days settling into our new school routines. It has been great to have so many children keen to get stuck into new roles and responsibilities and are already showing to be great role models for the younger members of our school.
