At Moorsway, children begin their spelling journey using the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised phonics scheme. This starts at the beginning of Foundation and takes them up to the end of Year 1. In Year 2, children build upon their secure knowledge of phonics with a review of Phase 5, a 'bridging to spelling' unit before beginning the Year 2 spelling units taken from Little Wandle.
From Year 3 onwards, our Moorsway spelling pathway builds upon children's knowledge of phonics, and focuses on a phoneme a week throughout the school. The Statutory word lists are built into their pathway so that they are taught in their phoneme groups where possible.
